Welcome to today’s March MADness head-to-head. Email overload is easily one of the most common frustrations people have at work. No matter what, it always seems that there are just too many. Some of the worst offenders for flooding inboxes and keeping you in email purgatory are scheduled emails and autonotification emails. Which is worse?

Scheduled Email Hell

Whether they’re newsletters, service updates, or some other look-what’s-going-on-here announcement, scheduled emails from various subscriptions and services are those emails you opted into but you never read, and they build up. To make matters worse, they’re marginally different from one email to the next.

Autonotification Email Hell

Autonotifications are sent automatically when someone updates a task, project, or chat. In the best-case scenario, these autonotifications can be batched, but usually your inbox gets swamped by minor updates to various channels. Is it really necessary to know that someone left a chat? Rarely.
